MMORPG’s: Massively multiplayer online role-playing games.  Have been around for decades.  Remember the titles like ragnarok, grandchase, and maplestory?  Pretty sure you have, or at some point even played games like them.  For the more American titles, we’d have Cabal, Runescape, and World of Warcraft.  All these games have something in common, and that’s they are all time consuming, and require a lot of investment in terms of skill and sometimes money (pay-to-win players blegh).

Another thing these games have in comon is a level system.  May it be character level, skill level, job level, or class level, MMO’s are well known for grinding levels and gathering rare loot to get others envy and assert dominance in your very own virtual world.  Here we will be talking about popular MMORPG’s that a lot of people are playing all around the world and have specific servers depending on the country of your residence.

Soul Worker

SoulWorker (also known as SoulWorker Online) is an anime-style free Action MORPG from South Korea and currently has a NA and EU version. The game involves characters called SoulWorkers that have various powers that serve as the only force mankind has against a horde of monsters and demons from the void.

4 Starter characters

So far in the NA and EU servers, you currently have the choice between 5 playable characters, each with their own unique class ablities and combo sets.  It features a rich story unique to each character you choose and is a dungeon crawler type of MMORPG.  Grinding for levels and farming for loot and gear are highly dependent on repeated completion of certain dungeon’s with 3 levels of difficulty each presenting you with a different challenge.

For anime fans, and weabs, I highly recommend this game for you guys.  3 of the current classes feature very kawaii characters that you will certainly fall in love with at first sight (Hint: one of them’s a guitar wielding loli).  Or for the more cool type of characters we go Erwin with the double pistols and Jin a highschoool brawler!  Its fairly easy to grind levels, following the story quests or yellow quests easily get your character from level 1-20 in a mere 5 hours.  The game also features a reward every 5 levels that comes in the form of a chest with in-game rewards specific to your chosen character that can;t be bought anywhere else.  Very easy to learn to play, the tutorial is a quick 5mins and the game itself is playable in both the keyboard and controller, depending on your preference.  To end on a good note, this game is free to play and is available for both a stand alone client, or downloadable on steam.

Available on steam, and more importantly is free-to-play!  The only limitation is how much time are you willing to invest on playing on this jewel of a game.

TERA has typical MMORPG features such as questing, crafting, and PVP action. The game’s combat uses a real-time battle system in the third person camera view. The player targets an enemy with a cross-hair cursor rather than clicking or tabbing an individual opponent (which is called the “Non-Target battle system” by the developer). YOu use both your keyboard and mouse to execute basic attacks and skill attack combos allowing for very immersive gameplay.  You have to actively dodge enemy attacks and skills and execute your own by command.  Everything is at the control of your fingertips, what’s not to be excited about!  You are in full control and being adept at this game will come with the passage of time you spend in game.

Characters may be one of seven races, allied with the Valkyon Federation. Each race has a set of unique “racial skills” that gives them minor advantages. Races also have their own unique animations for many class-specific skills. TERA also has 13 classes, each with their own unique abilities and attributes.  This means that you can make a mixture of both a race and a class giving you access to certain combinations that can cover for the weakness of the other, or exponentially boost the strength of another.

Diablo 3

Now here’s a game that never died.  Diablo 1 & 2 have always been a part of my childhood and probably most of your’s too, with quite a gruesome and nightmarish theme to it, this will always and forever be a great game.  Much like in Diablo and Diablo 2,  the quality and attributes of equipment are randomized. Featuring endless farming and looting heavily reliant on RNG.  In addition to base stats (such as damage and attack speed for weapon or armor points on armor), higher-quality items have additional properties, such as extra damage, stat bonuses, bonuses to crit chance or sockets (which allow items to be upgraded and customized by adding gems for various stat bonuses). Magic-quality items have 1 to 3 random properties, rare-quality items have 4 to 6 random properties and legendary-quality items typically have 6 to 8 properties with varying degrees of randomness (for example, the Mempo of Twilight, a legendary helm, always has a socket, bonuses to elemental resistance, attack speed and life, a bonus to either Intelligence, Dexterity or Strength, and one additional random property, however the magnitude of these bonuses varies from item to item), and set items are a subtype of legendary items which provide additional, cumulative bonuses if multiple items from the same set are simultaneously equipped. Higher level monsters tend to drop higher level items, which tend to have higher base stats and bonuses.

With RNG being a huge factor with equipment sets and the absence of a trade system between players that are not on your friends list, this makes a game platform where everyone is almost at no advantage amongst eachother in terms of equipment and rather it becomes a game of who played the most hours! (or sometimes whoever the RNG gods favor).  Needless to say with the huge mob of monsters and demons that you go up against in this game, and the waveclearing potential of all classes make this game an all out fun game to play especially when you reach the point where you just cruise around monsters because of your godlike equipment.  Trust me leveling up in this game is so easy and endless by the way (paragon leveling system) that if you played the game 8 hours straight as a newbie I can assure you that you are gonna get to 100 levels above the game’s normal cap, this labels your level as paragon levels now.  Available on both PC via or Playstation and Xbox.

Features a zoneless world in either a first person POV or third person POV.  ITs a sandbox RPG with a very unique class system that is so diverse that you’re better off not looking a class up in google because you can make one yourself.  You get to pick 3 different classes and combine them to make your own unique skill tree and class that even has its own name!  The possiblities are endless.

This game makes you feel that you are living a second life inside of your computer.  It has its own crafting system, housing system, farming system, feels like a sims game with medieval and magical action.  It also features PVP combat and Guild wars where 100 members can go against a 100 members all at one time!  Think about server overload! However this game is so greatly managed that having it crash on you is the least of your worries.  If you’re retired and plan on getting back to gaming, or just rich on time, this is a must try, with the limitations being your creativity, there’s just so muc hto do in this game aside from just leveling your character up.  You could stay underleveld to all other players but own the best gear and house in the world.

Here are the ArcheAge system requirements (minimum)

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 or AMD Athlon 64 X2
  • CPU SPEED: Info
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • OS: Windows Vista
  • VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 or ATI Radeon HD 4250 or Intel HD Graphics 3000 (512 MB VRAM)

These are some of the MMORPG’s that I have spent most of my time on and are what I highly recommmend for those of you MMORPG fans that play mainstream content or are bored from your favorites not listed on here.  I play on an i5 computer wiht a GTX 1050 graphics card and I could play all these games on their maximum quality aside from archeage.  Archeage is quite demanding on your graphics card so I do recommend either a GTX 1060 or 1060ti as the minimum and just an i5 minimum processor and you’re good to go.
